Mandatory face covering for travel on Hong Kong Airlines flights
Last Updated:(Hong Kong)2020-05-27
The safety and well-being of our customers and staff is our top priority. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are introducing an additional precautionary measure to reduce and minimise the spread of the virus.
From 1 June 2020, all passengers travelling on Hong Kong Airlines flights will be required to wear a face covering or mask:
- Throughout the check-in process
- Boarding at the departure gate
- At all times when on board, except when eating or drinking or requested by our crew in an emergency situation
- Disembarkation from the aircraft at the end of the flight
While exemption is given to passengers under the age of 2 years old, the use of appropriate protection for infants is highly recommended.
Passengers who are unable to wear a face covering for an extended period of time due to medical reasons may still be accepted for boarding but should declare this to our check-in agent. Questions on medical and travel history will be asked and your response will be noted in your booking record. We strongly suggest that you use alternative protection for the entire journey as recommended by your doctor.
Customers who arrive at our check-in counter without a face covering will be asked to comply with the Airport Authority’s requirement to wear a face mask in the restricted areas of the departure levels at Hong Kong International Airport. You will be asked to confirm that you have at least one face covering per customer in your travel party by showing these to our check-in agent.
All customers will also be asked to provide a current contact number if we do not have a record of this to facilitate the health authority’s tracing purposes.
Our staff at the departure gate will request for customers to produce a face covering prior to boarding their flight.
Once on board, our cabin crew will regularly check that all customers are adhering to the requirement during the flight.
You are highly recommended to keep your face covering on when moving around the airport for extra protection. Please check the face covering requirement of your departing and arriving airport before you travel.
Hong Kong Airlines reserves the right to refuse carriage to passengers not wearing a face covering. We appreciate your cooperation to make travelling with Hong Kong Airlines a safe experience for everyone.
