New Hong Kong/Japan Open Skies Agreement Welcomed By Hong Kong Express Airways

2008 Jan 31

Flights to Okinawa to be introduced in April

Hong Kong, 31January 2008 … Hong Kong Express Airways has today welcomed the lifting of capacity restrictions on flights between Hong Kong and all Japanese cities with the exception of Tokyo. The announcement marks a key step in the airline’s development of new scheduled services to Japan which will commence with the introduction of flights to Okinawa in early April.

“The new air services arrangement which allows all Hong Kong carriers to operate to Japan without capacity restriction is very much welcome. I applaud such significant step,” said Mr. Ronnie Choi, President of Hong Kong Express Airways.

“Operating scheduled services to additional destinations in Japan is not only a tremendous plus for travellers but will affirm our position and status as a truly regional player in a market which we firmly believe has strong growth potential.” Choi added.

In addition to launching flights to Okinawa, Hong Kong Express Airways plans to seek approval to introduce scheduled services to a further three destinations in Japan in 2008: Nagoya, Kagoshima and Okayama.

Hong Kong Express Airways currently operates a fleet of four Boeing 737-800 aircraft to which an additional six aircraft of the same type will be added throughout 2008 to facilitate expansion.
