Hong Kong, 14 Mar, 2007… Hong Kong Express Airways has announced that next month it launch flights between Hong Kong and the capital of mainland China’s Shaanxi province and gateway to western China, Xian. The new route - the airline’s first since it’s relaunch in late January this year – will become the airline’s sixth* in a network that encompasses business and leisure destinations throughout the Chinese mainland, Greater China and South East Asia.
One of mainland China’s top 10 largest cities, Xian is known as ‘the gateway to Silk Road’ - one of the most important trade routes in ancient Chinese history. Today, Xian is the most developed city in the central western region of mainland China and is known as one of the country’s centres of academic excellence, especially in the field of technology.
Timed to coincide with the unveiling of its new brand identity earlier this year, Hong Kong Express Airways took delivery of its first Boeing 737 aircraft. Further aircraft are expected to join the carrier’s fleet throughout 2007 in line with planned increases in capacity on selected routes and the addition of further destinations.
* Current destinations: Chengdu, Chiang Mai,, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Ningbo
