Hong Kong Express Airways To Expand Fleet with Boeing 737s

2006 Sep 13

Hong Kong, 13 September 2006 … Hong Kong Express Airways has confirmed it will expand its fleet with the addition of Boeing 737 narrowbody twin-jet aircraft. The announcement follows the airline's recent designation as permitted carrier on an additional five routes into mainland China as well as its receipt of approval to sell a 45 per cent stake in its operation to mainland China's HNA Group – parent company of Hainan Airlines.

Hong Kong Express Airways CEO Andrew Tse said, "True to our goal, our plans for fleet expansion bear testament to our commitment to growth."

"Plus, I believe that adding these larger, mid-range B737s serves well to bolster our position as a credible and legitimate industry player. We have successfully reached our first anniversary and it is now time for us to fly a little higher." He added.

It is anticipated that Hong Kong Express Airways will take delivery of the new aircraft later this year however the actual number of aircraft has yet to be confirmed. The carrier currently operates a fleet of 4 Embraer 170 aircraft for which it was the launch Asian customer.

Hong Kong Express currently flies to 6 destinations across China and south east Asia.
